ManukaCare 18+, from the New Zealand Natural Food Company, is a high potency, sterilised honey in a tube, and an effective treatment for hard-to-heal wounds, skin ulcers, sores and burns. It has a minimum rating of 18, which indicates a high level of anti-bacterial activity, which has found to be four times greater than standard antiseptics, and active against the seven most common bacteria found in wounds, including the superbug MRSA which can cause necrotising facsitis. It has been successfully used at the Royal Free Hospital in London, and is undergoing clinical trials at Sligo General Hospital in Ireland.

That said, it also makes a brilliant facial scrub! The sterilised honey is slightly gritty and, rubbed gently into the face, has an exfoliating effect. Left on the face while you relax in a hot bath makes it a nourishing and anti-bacterial face mask, which has a softening and clarifying effect on the skin. Take my word for it!
